Written and Photos by Bang Ho   Shy Beast is a local band that captivated everyone in the audience at the Swan Dive for their EP release party. They are the perfect entertainment package of a polished electro pop rock band fronted by Mariclaire (MC) Glaeser; it was surprising they didn’t have a bigger stage. MC’s…

Smallpools, 9/26/2017, Emo’s, Austin, Photos – Write-up

Written by Bang Ho   Smallpools did everything big, from the sound to the performance on stage at Emo’s. Sean Scanlon’s vocals spanned an octave or two in a matter of a few notes with ease as he played synth/keys with the rest of the band fully filling out the rest of the songs. It…

Bishop Briggs, 5/20/2017, Mohawk, Austin, Photos – Write-up

Written and Photos by Bang Ho   Bishop Briggs showed us that electro RnB is a genre that is alive and well at the sold out entrancing show. Her powerful voice stayed in the lower registers, but effortlessly traversed the scale as the song soaringly crested and fell with the energy of her words. On a sea of her…

Yoke Lore – SXSW 2017 Top 20

Yoke Lore (Brooklyn, NY) produces extraordinary chill, modern, pop earworms with a tinge of banjo and vocals on vocals on vocals.

Bio: Brooklyn project Yoke Lore is the new musical venture of Adrian Galvin, previously of Yellerkin and Walk the Moon. Yoke Lore layers the harmonies of Panda Bear, the soulful beats of M83, and the modern pop of Blackbird Blackbird to tell “the stories of how we are bound.” Galvin’s songs start with the folksy timbre of a banjo and add echoing waves of vocals and percussion to create unforgettable pop music with tactile sincerity and conviction.

Galvin grew up in an artistic family, his mother a director and his father an actor and sculptor. He was immersed in painting, photography, and ballet from an early age, eventually finding his first musical passion in the drums. While pursuing music, his artistry in other disciplines has not faltered, even lending his own artwork as the cover of his debut EP, Far Shore. When he’s not writing and recording new music, Galvin can be found teaching yoga or performing with his modern dance company Boomerang in Brooklyn. Following fall 2016 dates supporting Elliot Moss and Handsome Ghost, look for Yoke Lore on tour this winter, as well as at Savannah Stopover and SXSW in March 2017.

Written By Drew Walker of The Wild Now After having a few Coast Modern singles on my everyday Spotify playlist for the last couple of months, I was really excited to see this live show.
